Advanced Photoshop

In this month's edition of Advanced Photoshop magazine (October 2013 - issue 114), I was interviewed for an article on how Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator can be used together for web design.

I use both Photoshop and Illustrator everyday in my work, Photoshop for web layout and UI, and Illustrator for iconography and vector graphics. I like to create layered illustrations in Illustrator and import them into Photoshop as Vector Smart Objects. This means you can easily switch between the programs, working on layout in Photoshop while still being able to edit assets for the design in Illustrator at any time, in a non-destructive way. This is also great for making sure all assets are retina ready.

The article focuses on using the programs served up from Adobe's Creative Cloud. Being subscribed to Creative Cloud allows you to make use of new features like syncing fonts from TypeKit, and automatically generating assets for the web, straight from your PSD. The article also features interviews from awesome illustrators and designers Archan Nair and Mike Harrison, who share their perspective on how they use the two programs side-by-side.
